Extra Practical - quite an issue lately

Extra Practicals - basically one of the Dean's office way to collect extra money from the students by implementing practical classes in the evening so that we would probably acquire more medical skills (haha, maybe). Their other ways are, of course, raising the hostel fees. This year it was increased by 18%. I pay, but i turn on the heater all the time, on the water tab full blast even when i dont need it and on more stoves than i need - revenge is a virtue!

Ok - about extra practicals. Why should Malaysians pay 500USD for extra practicals? - this is going to be the main issue on our coming Malaysian AGM.
I am one of those who knows how it really was - since i did extra practicals last year. i know how tiring it was, how it really took much of my energy and time, but contrary to wud people say as a waste of time, i dont think it is a waste of time.

A little of my experience - we has 3 rotations (for 3rd year), about 5 classes per rotation - paediatrics, theraphy and surgery. In paediatrics - we learn from simple things like injections to just going around wards and learning about paediatric diseases. Theraphy - well, practising on auscultation, percussion, palpation and other manipulations. And it was also there i learnt how to read the ECG and had a bit of introduction on how to interprete echocardiogram, ultrasound, CW doppler etc. Surgery - under Dr Avdonin, not my idea of a really hardworking teacher, but he thought me Xrays, bandaging, blood grouping and some surgical diseases.
Yea, sure there are boring days and irresponsible doctors but even in normal classes there are days like that right?

So, many people can come after me, most probably saying, 'your parents are not paying for it anyway'. well - sure 500USD is a big amount, probably the amount can be bargained. but the wasting time thing, which i heard coming out from Mr. Faiz mouth, everyone can judge for themselves when they go for it soon.

But i would expect most people would have a miserable time anyway, because they already have a pessimistic view about it. I don't know, but i know i have much to learn and i will take every oppertunity given to learn. About the extra practicals taking our precious evening time -who says being a doctor is a 8am-5pm job?
